We caught up with Joanne as she was wrapping 1970s lampshades with grey felt. It was a snowy day in Vermont; she was excited to know spring wildflowers were going to greet her in Texas.

This will be her second trip to Round Top; last year she was at Marburger Farm Antique Show. This year she’s planning to shop. With several projects looming, including a hotel remodel in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, and outfitting an ice cream shop, Palmisano has a wish list she hopes to fill during her working trek to Texas.

Her books, which are available at the Junk Gypsy World Headquarters, are rooted in her experience repurposing salvage materials.

“I’ve always designed with salvage materials,” Palmisano said. “My husband and I have a beautiful lakefront home that began as a cabin that we deconstructed, recycled every nail and all of the materials. Then we built it back using recycled materials.”

Her books were born as word spread about the project and people expressed interest in what she had created.  The growing interest has  positioned her to author her third book, which was confirmed this week, and will focus on using age-old materials in a modern way.
