Even Santa, who has a workshop full of elves to back him up, struggles to find the perfect present. His advice? Buy locally, especially if you live somewhere like the Roundtopolis where merchants and service providers are friendly—and creative.
Santa may be a jolly old elf, but he’s a little tight-lipped when it comes to sharing trade secrets. When he mentioned “industrial espionage,” we quickly hung up the phone.
With visions of SEC investigators dancing in our heads, we reached out to the Register’s advertisers for their gift-giving advice. The only parameters? The gifts have to be cool and memorable—and cannot involve a trip to the mall.
Those who responded were definitely thinking out of the box.

Olive trees have become very popular in Texas and are found dotting many orchards within a stone’s throw of Round Top’s square. As one of our local experts noted, “Nothing can compare to a dove carrying an olive branch from your own olive tree to make a nest.”

Big boys like big toys—and big equipment. It doesn’t get much bigger or better than a bright orange Kubota tractor from Elk Tractor in La Grange. If your Christmas tree isn’t big enough to hide a tractor, the dealership offers utility vehicles, zero-turn mowers and Stihl power equipment.

Santa isn’t the only one hauling stuff around the country. Justin Wells and his team of professionals at Distinguished Transport specialize in delivering purchases in good time and in good condition. He shared this photo of a “happy, happy, happy” customer, Duck Dynasty’s Willie Robertson who had his Round Top Antiques Show purchases delivered straight to his doorstop in Louisiana.
