Woody Russell is a self-described “working class musician,” performing more than 200 dates a year at all manner of venues and major stages, from listening rooms to the Newport Folk Festival. His “Jazzicana” brand of American roots music, equally informed by a cross-pollination of jazz, classic rhythm & blues and country, feels lived in, experienced and a bit restless.
The Bugle Boy Foundation’s 2013 Talent Trust Award, he is known for his vivid lyricism, honeyed baritone, and guitar chops likened by Blues Revue to the “fearlessness” of Jeff Beck, Russell has been prominently featured on the CW Network’s docu-reality show Troubadour, TX, and recorded seven albums since his 1996 debut, … as simple as that.
He plans to release his next album, Dark Hour Radio, in 2023.
