What

You could say that Emily Gimble was born into a life of music, being the daughter of famed guitarist and upright bass player Dick Gimble and the granddaughter of one of the most beloved fiddle players of all time, Johnny Gimble. But make no mistake: Her distinguished career has nothing to do with destiny or DNA, and everything to do with her own lifelong dedication to her craft, going all the way back to the first time she started playing piano at age 7. By the time she recorded A Case of the Gimbles with her father and grandfather in 2005, Emily was already a formidable talent in her own right, both as a pianist and as a singer. She would go on to record and play with such acts as the Marshall Ford Band, Warren Hood and the Goods, and Asleep at the Wheel, leading to the release of her acclaimed solo debut, Certain Kinda, in 2017. Along the way, she’s won “Best Keyboards” at the Austin Music Awards four times, and also held the honor of being named 2020’s Official Texas State Musician — just like her grandfather before her 15 years earlier.
