“Persona,” states Austin artist Ana Stapleton, “are recent paintings that explore the selves we long to be, the ones we embrace, the ones we hide from. Word play for ‘persona’ in Mexico, which means person. There is a tension between the cultural expectations of growing up Mexican female (to be polite, agreeable, supportive, demure) and being a fully expressed person with flaws, opinions, and noise.” Come and meet Ana at the March opening.
