It promises to be a Fourth of July like no other this year — and the greater Round Top region is all in on the return of celebrations. There are so many options, you need a guide. Everything from fireworks to parades to music festivals and much more are on tap for Fourth of July weekend. There’s even a rodeo.
It is Fourth of July weekend — of course you want to be in the Round Top region. Expect smaller crowds than you get in Texas’ monster sized cities, impressive fireworks and much, much more.

2021 Round Top Fourth of July Parade
How about celebrating America’s Independence Day at the longest-running parade west of the Mississippi? The 171st annual — yes 171st annual — Round Top Fourth of July Parade kicks off at Rifle Hall and makes its way through Round Top eventually looping back to Rifle Hall. There will be food and live music around town all day long.
Activities begin in Town Square at 10 am and the parade kicks off at 10:30 am with the shooting of the historic cannon. Enjoy BBQ at the Rifle Association Hall beginning at 11:30 am. And that’s just the beginning. The festivities also include a Biergarten, cake walk, raffle and more.
Backyard Bull Bash
Marty “Rooster” Norsworthy’s 16th Annual Backyard Bull Bash promises a day full of rodeo fun. Get into the rodeo swing with everything from bull riding to mutton bustin’ to calf scrambles. There will also be live music, live and silent auctions and fireworks at this jam-packed event. The Rooster gets a lot in.
The rodeo will take place at the Buckin’ N Arena in La Grange and proceeds go towards the Ronald McDonald House of Central Texas.
Columbus Annual Fourth of July Celebration
Starting Sunday, July 4 at 6 pm, the Columbus Municipal Golf Course will have a full-blown Independence Day bash. With food, drinks, kids’ activities and even access to the City Pool, there are plenty of ways to get into the spirit. One of the most adorable parades around, the George Fox Children and Pet Parade will start at 7:30 pm. Then a fireworks show begins to boom at 9 pm.
Fireworks at The Compound
Visit The Compound’s sprawling grounds on Saturday, July 3 for food and fireworks. A quickly growing Round Top tradition, celebrating Fourth of July weekend at The Compound is a great one-stop family-friendly outing.
Plus, it’s on July 3, which allows you to hit another Round Top happening (or two) on the 4th itself.
Grimes Street Music Fest
Bring your own lawn chairs and picnic provisions to this free music fest in the heart of Giddings. Featuring The Lost Cause Band and Texas Unlimited Band, this street fest gets the party started early on Friday, July 2nd.
The start of a beyond full weekend in Giddings, Grimes Street Music Fest is part of the town’s sesquicentennial celebration.
Giddings Sesquicentennial Celebration
The next town in the area to celebrate its sesquicentennial birthday, joining Round Top from earlier this summer, Giddings turns 150 years old this Independence Day weekend. Talk about good timing. Besides, the music festival, the weekend is jam-packed with different events and food. And it all caps off with fireworks at Firemens Park on Sunday, July 4.
Let Freedom Ring Independence Day Parade
Chappell Hill’s annual Let Freedom Ring Parade and Festivities celebrates Independence Day in a big way. It’s a full day of food, live music, shopping, even a car show. The perfect end to the festivities is the annual parade which begins at dusk.
The day begins at 10 am with lots of ways to celebrate around Chappell Hill. Full of floats, hot rods and more, the parade itself kicks off at 7:15 pm, setting the stage for the perfect end to the holiday weekend.
Round Top Music Festival
Offering a welcome reprieve from the Texas July heat, the fourth weekend of the Round Top Music Festival begins on Saturday, July 3. It is held inside the jaw-dropping Festival Institute — a venue that will not only take your breath away, but allow you to catch a breath in much welcomed air conditioning comfort.
The festival kicks off at 1:30 pm with a Piano Galore! concert. Afterward, the American Chamber Music Concert takes centerstage. Ending a day full of music, the Texas Festival Orchestra will perform in the evening.
Tickets are available for each concert individual and there are also Day Passes sold that provide one access to all the performances.
